Do you have a special mug that you love to use for your morning cup of whatever gets you through your day? I do. Amongst my collection of spirited mugs, I have a favourite— for my morning matcha, of course. I know what you’re thinking, but please, I urge you to stay with me for a moment!

When I look at my collection of mugs, I have one in particular that I wash a few times a day. I’ll reuse it multiple times a day, even though I have plenty of others to choose from. Day after day, I ensure this mug of beauty is ready for another day.

First, for a cup of ceremonial-grade matcha, then, on other days, for an afternoon brew of organic black masala tea. Some days, I opt for dirty matcha instead— a mix of half or a whole sachet of Four Sigmatic Think Mushroom Coffee with a spoonful of glowing green matcha powder. I subscribe to daily caffeine doses, so the mug I use matters.

Hot drinks recharge me in a way that cold beverages do not. I take great pride in my daily brews and know my Chinese aunties will be proud. They often remind me that drinking warm or lukewarm things is always better for you, likely for the sake of your qi (or sometimes also known as ch’i).
