Hi!
I’ve been thinking a lot about an idea I came across the other day, that we’re living through a visual age.
That while this may seem obvious, especially with the proliferation of social media, what I love most about the visual age—not to state the obvious— is how everything has become much more visually stimulating.
We capture more photos and more images occupy our days—yes, and unfortunately, some or lots of doom-scrolling too.
This is why, these days everything is better designed.
From physical spaces, to dishwashing soap, and even a bottle of olive oil, more people, from companies to consumers, care more and are more aware about the impact of how things look.
Of course, appearances aren’t everything.
The essay reminds of how human experience are much more dynamic. With other senses in the mix and a nod to charisma, the magic of offline experiences can only be felt in the presence, smells, and warmth of another.
While I agree that we cannot mistaken the richness of real life experiences by substituting life with only what’s online, I can however see the bright-side to appreciate how we’re also living through an age of heightened standards for a much more visually stimulating world.
