Why humanity is shifting from profit to purpose?

While we are living in arguably one of the most abundant periods in human history, much of our world is still organised by legacy systems (as I had written about in last week’s article). The dominant structures of developed nations, and which these nations strive to maintain, are systems that are remnants of the colonialism era, of industrialisations, and of post-Cold War order.
These systems prioritise economic gains over human thriving and are likely the reason why we’re witnessing surges in chronic illness, mental health issues, and an overall decline in health (dive deeper into this with “The Paradox of Prosperity and Decline in Health”).
Yet, there’s a budding future on the horizon, hinting at a future that’s more focused on genuine human flourishing over prioritising optimising industries for profits.
COVID, while a devastating tragedy for countless lives, also presented humanity with a rare collective reset. For those fortunate enough to find moments of reflection amidst the chaos, it led to profound shifts in perspective. People reevaluated careers, moved closer to nature, migrated away from dense cities, and reorganised their lives around newfound priorities. What became obvious was the unpredictability of tomorrow, which is innate to our everyday.
Such realisations underscore the fragility and impermanence of life, prompting many to realign their intentions. What the pandemic prompted was a reassessment of life, the world and the universe, and how best to live.
Real change always begins on the individual level first. As the vast reach of the Internet, leads to more individual awakenings which continue to echo across the globe, these changes will also cause a greater shift in the consciousness of more and more people, and shift the trajectory of humanity as a whole.
Despite the concerning pockets of those still operating under legacy ideals and those who show skeptical resistance, there’s a promising group emerging: those breaking free from outdated conditioning and pioneering new ways of life. It’s these trailblazers who we should join and rally around because real change is upon us.
Here are the key trends that are worth celebrating and possibly joining:
