The Momentum of Change
Questions on our control over pace and direction
Hi friends,
The theme that’s been occupying my mind lately is: change.
The consistency, the continuity, and complexity.
More specifically the change we sometimes don’t notice because of our mind’s preoccupation with our futures.
It’s the changes we barely see as we are living through every moment—caught up in the patterns, routines, and expectations— barely realising the pivots happening consistently all around us.
It’s also all the moments in between we lose to our ruminations of our past.
Change is the only constant, it’s a cliché, but a universal truth we share.
But what if the pace, the direction, and the quality of changes are the irregularities that are waiting for guidance?
That each life is contending a momentum so unique to the forces that dictate it— be it personal, social, spiritual and all the elements in between.
That while change is constant the way change unfolds is never predetermined, it’s directed.
That there are no set criterias to the change in a person and in a life, as the possibilities are endless.
While the change we experience are dictated partly by our choices, by fate, and a concoction of the unexpected circumstances and other intercepted influences that are within and beyond our control—every encounter matters.
No matter how brief, no matter how shallow, no matter how deep—it’s the compound of everything we pay attention to and the things we don’t that influence the changes we experience.
The changes we endure throughout life are a mirror to the ways we stimulate those fluctuations, peppered by the interactions we chance on too.
Yes, I’ve realise, life is about constant change but it’s also about the intention driving those changes that influence the direction, pace, and quality of the change—while the evolutions are a given, the latter three are a matter of self-direction—and the inputs we surround ourselves with.
What’s driving our intensions behind the changes we endure?
What if the pace, direction, and quality of the changes we experience are self-directed? How would we think differently about how we direct these changes? How intentional will we be?
With every decision, there’s a reason motivating every action—whether circumstance or fate, once the direction is set in motion the ripples we set in motion will decide the momentum.
While some decisions are reactionary, others mandatory, the luxury is to create the space and time to deeply contemplate the motivations behind every action, in order to direct the change that’s inevitable.
What are some of the ways you direct the pace, direction, and quality of change in your life?
What if we let love be the foundation to our intentions?
You can expect a special uplifting line up for our monthly curation tomorrow.
Thanks for spending some of your day with me.
