📢❗🚨 Quick Update 📢❗🚨:

For paying members, the first installment of a new series of recordings is now available in the Members Only library, called Thinking Out Loud.

Think of these as mini intimate podcasts, created just for you. Each recording will be short snippets on a specific topic—and because it’s only for my members, I feel a lot freer to be much more candid. Enjoy!

If you’re not yet part of this community, you can consider subscribing today or you can consider upgrading today to gain access to the full archives, the Members Only library, Bitesize, poems, and other audio recordings too.

We thought the age of empires have disappeared, but it’s not that empires have gone, it’s only that the empires of today, in 2024, do not resemble the empires of the past.

The empires of today don't march in metal armor, wielding swords or riding in hordes of steel. They're not the warlords of castles and armored armies, like in TV series such as Game of Thrones or films like The Lord of the Rings. Instead, today’s empires are far more polished and composed, cloaked in the guise of technology liberators, offering services and ‘value’ that create the foundation to our modern lives.

From the many services we happily subscribe to, to the data machines we willingly indulge, these incredibly useful, addictive, and convenient products and systems of today—with the likes of Google, Apple, Netflix, Samsung, and every other technology touch point in our lives are the empires of today.

Their innovation is undeniable, their value immeasurable. These churners of products and creators of services, using the power of the Internet, serve billions—a global population—from the comfort of their local offices.

While the tech behemoths largely hail from Western nations—predominantly skewed towards the U.S.—new contenders like Alibaba and Temu are rapidly emerging as the competing empires of today.

No matter where we are in the world, it seems almost impossible to disconnect ourselves from the influence of these companies, so what does this mean for us—the consumers—and common folk to these empires?
