a step each day, a prayer a day
004 | Hue's Cues: Your weekly dose of inspiration and insights for your brain, mind, body, and soul.
Hello friends,
We’ve reached the last day of 2025! Congratulations—we made it!
To those of you who have been reading these editions, I thank you for your support. I say this often but honestly, with the abundance of other things you could be doing, I am truly honored you chose this instead.
If you’ve been with me from the beginning, thank you for continuing with me. It’s funny how it always feels like we’re only just at the beginning. The few likes and messages I get from you are the things that keep me going, as it reminds me that there are real eyes and souls seeing what I create—you know who you are. ;)
I am in my embrace myself era.
I come from a culture that prioritizes conformity over individuality. I come from a home that wanted me to fit into a box that I never fit. So while I spent years attempting to please, one of the greatest wins for me this year has been to care less about what others think; I’ve chosen to tune into my values and intuition instead.
I am glad to have you here with me. However you’re choosing to spend this season—I wish you lots of love, laughter, hugs and homemade soups.
I’ll be back sometime in January (don’t miss me too much!). But I’ll leave you with one last poem. (Oh and for my paying subscribers, you should have already received something special in your inboxes last week. If not, reach out to me please.)
life is just a game,
for some it’s fame, for others it’s about who’s to blame,
no matter who you are, where you are,
life is for you to claim.
name your plain, maim the shame,
tame the gloom, and liberate your aims.
channel the bloom, reframe the chase, embrace grace,
and set your brain ablaze— knowledge, appreciation, and curiosity are it’s champions.
life is a compound of good, bad, marvelous, and ugly choices,
it’s the scars we wear, the wounds we mend, and the badges we’ve earned,
made of rounds, of constant decisions,
it’s trajectory is limitless:
stay poised, rejoice, or learn to sit with the noise—
stay passive and you’ll lose yourself in the tides,
be aggressive and you’ll lose all ties,
find somewhere in the middle;
a step each day, a prayer a day,
it’s cliché but life is really about how you choose to play.
Sleep is the ultimate rest and recovery for the brain, but have you ever tried a sound bath? I was skeptical until the pandemic, when I was curious—and made my way to a Tibetan singing bowl playlist, which changed my mind. If tiny gut microorganisms can influence how you think and feel, it’s not a stretch to say vibrations from gongs and singing bowls are restorative to the brain. The back of my neck still tingles, even when I listen on headphones—imagine what the real thing does, in proximity? ;)
I admit, I’ve been slacking a little, but I tried again to learn a new language. It’s been about the 8th or 10th time I’ve tried. When I was twelve I repeated French twice—and I still can only say: “Salut, je voudrais un streak frites?” This year I tried Japanese and Mandarin on Duolingo, as a new stimulus to my mind. I failed at consistency, but I’m thinking of kicking things off again—mmm maybe soon, after the holidays haha. Did I tell you I am a procrastinator? I need ambition to stimulate my mind.
Yes, sorry I am one of those annoying people who loves to workout. I even published a love letter about it. But training the body goes beyond workouts and movement; it’s also about intentional play. Exploring the diverse range of how your body can move is part of the fun. I used to be maniacal about specific exercises, then I realized exercise is a human invention. Movement—understanding how your body wants to move and what feels good—is the body awareness that I am after these days. Lead with curiosity and the rest will follow. If you need inspiration, check out this guy—or this guy, and Joan— to see what I mean by range. I am predicting 2026 might be my mobility era, maybe.
Touch is one of the most powerful human sensations. This holiday season, nourish your soul with IRL time with loved ones—hugs and cuddles are my love language, what’s yours?
Have you checked your Spotify Wrapped for 2025? (Basic. I know. But who ever thought of that ideas—is a marketing genius. I’m just saying.) Because this—ladies and gents—has been copied straight from Spotify’s curation of MY TOP SONGS FOR 2025. Enjoy my moods.
Reggie Watts is a performer in his own league. THIS TED TALK from 2012 floored me. I didn’t know one person can be so talented. Flabbergasted. Inspiring just doesn’t cut it—and a decade later it’s still an all time favorite, with his latest posted this month (Reggie Watts Live From the Berghain)! Enjoy!
