A Blueprint to Whole Living
The Happy Hue Way
Following the lunar calendar, which follows moon cycles instead of the popularised sun-based Gregorian calendar, we are officially into the Year of the Snake.
In Chinese culture, the snake symbolizes wisdom, intuition, and transformation, alongside the more common connotations of evil and terror. Snakes also represent harvest, procreation, and good fortune.
2025 is the Year of the Wood Snake
Centred around themes of renewal and regeneration; like a snake shedding its skin, we are encouraged to let go of the past and egos to shed the old and welcome the new.
The wood element is also symbolic in representing nurture and expansion, where flexibility, adaptability, and creativity are anchors. Compared to the other elements (e.g. fire or water), the Wood Snake is compassionate and connected to nature; embodying qualities like resilience and optimism.
Whether or not you believe this, these are still great themes to anchor our explorations this year. The time feels ripe to remind you what this newsletter (and community) is all about.
I advocate for living at our best, as our best, and as our most authentic.
What this means for you and me will absolutely be different. You and I are not the same. That’s OK by the way. Embracing our quirks is part of the mantra.
What I hope to create here is an exploration of life, wellness, and beyond, one that encourages us to do the things that challenge us to live most authentic, at our best and as our best— without apology, shame, or a need for external validations.
Every day is a new opportunity for each of us to inch closer to a life that’s truest to our souls because we each get only one life— and this is it.
Maximising neuroplasticity through a growth mindset is the key.
We now have access to information like never before in human history. It’s our choice whether we want to learn the skills to harness our natural superpower.
If we take on this challenge—to use our curiosity, effort, and grit—to make the most of neuroplasticity and a growth mindset, we can continuously level up throughout our lifetime.
Each new day offers the opportunity to recommit to embracing this natural gift, making the most of our nature and our lifelong capacity for evolution.
I am committed to investigating how we can each thrive—as individuals and as a collective. I want to catalyse an inner renaissance within myself and others toward flourishing. Why live a mediocre life when greatness is always within reach? (Whatever greatness means to you.)
The goal is to build this space into an engaging, supportive community of enablers and accountability partners who will keep us honest. Where we each aim to create a wiser, healthier, and brighter future— in our own way—for ourselves and our collective futures.
I realise this ambition can feel abstract or out of reach, but let’s simplify the approach by outlining the fundamentals. This is what I’ve narrowed it down to:
The four core pillars
Brain. We need to understand that the brain, although unseen, is fundamental to our existence. It’s a complex intelligence shaping how we experience everything—from sensations to emotions to life itself. It enables movement, thinking, and socialising—core to being human. Without the brain, life becomes impossible, making the brain our primary pillar.
The brain houses humanity’s greatest gift: neuroplasticity. This lifelong ability allows for continuous rewiring, forging new patterns and adapting neural pathways based on all our exposures and experiences.
Yet, the brain’s adaptability is neutral, automatically responding to everything it encounters—the great, good, bad, and ugly. Unable to discern between valuable or depleting experiences, it relies on us as its ultimate guardian.
Honestly, how can we expect to live well, if we’re not proactively caring for our brains? It’s like trashing a car’s engine and expecting it to run well.
Mind. The mind is the thinking thing in each of us— the subjective cognitive force. Our capacity for cognition is what sets us apart from other living things. While likely dependent on the physical brain, the mind is an independent spirit.
The distinction matters because the mind charts its own path, housing powerful narratives that shape our perception of self and the world. It’s our foundation for understanding our reality, what we feel is possible, where imagination flourishes, and where dreams take root.
The mind lives through visions and interpretations. Like software accepting new information, it can shift direction as easily as wind. This flexibility makes it both critical infrastructure and a malleable foundation—requiring vigilant protection as we navigate life.
Just as faulty code crashes software, how can we expect our mind to function well if we neglect them or worse, feed it nonsense?
Body. The body is the vessel and our physical interface—how we experience reality and sensations. It enables both the brain and mind. Through evolution, our bodies are what define our species.
Working with the brain and the mind, the body forms an interconnected web of muscle, mass, cells, and matter. Without all of its parts, both function and existence would be impossible.
What is a car without its body? What is a home without its structures and a roof?
Soul. The soul is our essence. It’s what distinguishes us from other living things. It’s the immaterial core that makes us who we are. For some, it represents our transcendent connection to divinity. The soul is the spirit within us that makes each person distinct and irreplaceable. Our soul is our spirit—it’s what makes us truly human.
These core pillars are one and dependent.
While each is important, this whole represents the entirety of our human experience. The science is clear: the brain, mind, body, and soul function as a unified system. Not as isolated islands, functioning and operating on their own, but as an integrated whole that makes you, you. It’s also why true health is holistic and well-being is multidimensional.
The Five Actions:
Train. Training is about intentional development of the brain, mind, body, and soul—beyond physical fitness. It’s about proactive actions towards commitment to growth and progress that are essential to human evolution—and that which gives us our purpose.
Examples of training:
Reading thought-provoking material trains the brain.
Chanting mantras and positive affirmations train the mind.
Running trains the body.
Engaging with uplifting people trains the soul.
Nourish. Nourishment provides essential elements for thriving, beyond just the physical. Nourishment means feeding all aspects of ourselves while honouring our unique preferences. While some methods are universal, what we each find nourishing is unique to who we are at our core.
Examples of nourishment:
Learning desired skills that we’re naturally curious about nourishes the brain.
Activities that spark joy nourish the mind.
Consuming nutrient-dense whole foods nourishes the body.
Quality time with supportive loved ones nourishes the soul.
Stimulate. Stimulation enhances our core pillars through arousal. By following our curiosity, what we stimulate ourselves with will guide our neuroplasticity. Through intentional choices, we steer ourselves through what truly matters and that which aligns with our values. While random stimulation and stepping outside of comfort zones have value, stimulation without genuine interest can feel hollow—be deliberate.
Examples of simulations:
Exploring new places stimulates the brain.
Problem-solving stimulates the mind.
Trying out new movement patterns, like learning a new dance or type of movement in the gym stimulates the body.
Tree bathing stimulates the soul.
Rest & Recover. Essential for repair and regeneration, these often-overlooked elements are crucial for thriving. We are not machines— we need to honour moments of quiet and replenishment as part of our nature.
Examples of rest and recovery:
Gong baths recover the brain.
Free mental wandering rests the mind.
Massages recover the body.
Reflective journaling recovers the soul.
Sleep. Sleep is the non-negotiable. Nature’s essential reset of seven to eight hours daily. Sleep restores us whole. Science confirms we can’t “make up” lost sleep later. Consistent, adequate daily sleep is crucial for functioning.
Aim for Sustainable Well-being
True health and well-being function as an integrated system. These five actions work in harmony with the four pillars, emphasizing lifelong compounding habits over short-term quick fixes.
Success means adapting to our current season of life through self-awareness and compassion, not idealising the past or future, as life and our circumstances are in constant evolution.
It’s about choices that compound positively over a lifetime. Not perfection, but always a balancing act and about being honest about what makes the most sense right now. It’s never easy, but it’s always worth it.
Traning with rest. Understanding why quality nutrition matters most days, why paying attention to what we focus on matters, and everything in between. Even the duration of what we lend our attention to can mean the difference between being informed or anxious. It’s also about choosing our companions deliberately.
Personalisation is a priority to address our complexities. Be brutally honest about what’s realistic in every season, especially now.
Small, consistent changes outweigh dramatic unsustainable shifts.
Breaking outsized goals into manageable chunks, creating achievable milestones that sustain motivation.
Sustainable change starts with self-care. Like airline safety—secure your oxygen mask first before attending to others, as we must be well to serve well.
We’re human, not superheroes. Yet, extraordinary is within reach if we go slow, aim long-term, and start habits today towards a lifetime of transformation.
As the saying goes, life is a marathon, not a sprint. ;)
