057 | #ANEWWITHTHEHUE | October 2024 Edition
A monthly Saturday listicle to spark joy on life, wellness, and everything in between.
Happy weekend friends!
Starting next week…
You’ll receive one email each week. I’ll continue writing everyday until the end of October, to finish off this month’s series: Breaking the Scroll.
The latest edition Day 019.
A Millennial's Digital Detox Diaries: Life is simply meant to be lived, not for an audience.
I’ve been happily exploring different formats! Yipeee!
Stay tuned. ;) More experiments coming your way.
I am excited, for what will follows this series. As always, thank you for your continued support.
Going off Instagram has been the best decision—every year. Because it’s terrific for my mental wellness, but also my productivity and creativity—no exaggerations. You’ll see what I mean (soon)!
Music. RAC. If you’re missing those sultry, soulful, indie sounds, this album is for you.
Music. Ross From Friends, came highly recommended. Don’t confuse him with a reference to the actor and famous show (like I did. lol.)! Yes, that’s his DJ name (I wonder what the backstory was). Great set for the weekend and he is probably one of the most exciting rising talents hitting the decks. It’s reminiscent of Fred Again’s rise.
Podcast. Good Life Project. This is a timely conversation, as one of my main goals this month is to unwind even more from people pleasing in order to listen more to myself and in reclaiming my most authentic self.
Podcast. Hidden Brain. Exposing the latest science on an unconventional insight into what power is—and what it really takes to acquire and maintain it. Also how even people with the best intentions can be seduced by power.
Podcast. The Next Big Idea. Fascinating conversation about the innate nature of caring for status. Beyond material wealth, status is innate to human nature. Listen to learn why.
Podcast. Zoe: Science & Nutrition. Interesting facts on vitamin D, supplementation and the common sense fallacies on vitamin intake. Supplementation is not as standardise or regulated as we may think.
Podcast. What Now? with Trevor Noah. “Making Bureaucracies Sexier with Yuval Noah Harari.” Yuval Noah Harari is probably one of the greatest minds of our time. Every conversation with him, I learn something profound and new. The expanse of his bird’s eye view as a historian is remarkable. His message is critical.
Podcast. People I (Mostly) Admire. “The Language of the Universe.” Part of this is wild, things that are beyond my comprehension but remarkable insights on why numbers rules our universe.
Book. Michelle Obama. “Becoming.” Is a powerful story of a woman—a mother, a lawyer, a human— who resisted a public and political life, but executed every step with stride once thrown into the deep of one of the world’s most contentious political arenas.
Book. Stefan Zweig. “Chess Story.” I am not typically a fan of fiction. But this was a enjoyable light-read, that came recommended, so I am passing it on.
Article. American Association for Cancer Research. September 18, 2024. “AACR Cancer Progress Report Highlights Innovative Research, Novel Treatments, and Powerful Patient Stories.” The latest research showing links between alcohol consumption and cancer, increasing the risk for six different types of cancer like oesophagal, breast, colorectal, liver, and stomach cancers.
Article. Financial Times. Laura Hughes and Amy Borett. “Teenage social media use strongly linked to anxiety and depression, UK study finds.” How much more evidence do we need before we start to do something about this.
Article. Well Worthy. Ash Read. “Nike Strength unveils the Nike Grind Dumbbell, made from recycled footwear.” Weights made from recycled footwear probably doesn’t counter balance the amount of waste Nike produces globally, but the initiative is a nice gesture for a sustainable push, to hopefully inspire others elsewhere.
Article. The Yale Review. Yung In Chae. “Why Hang Kang’s Nobel Matters.” Highlights the powerful role art and literature can play in revealing history and informing the generations that follow.
Substack. Gratitude Journal. Alex Elle. “Letting Go is Sacred.” The best analogy for letting go and why it’s essential for healing and growth. Beautiful piece.
Substack.
. “Why Close Friendships Aren’t Always Enough.” A fresh perspective on relationships and which ones matters. A surprising insight into how to battle loneliness, that may feel counter-intuitive to common assumptions.Show. HBO. The Penguin. If you’re a fan of ganster movies and crime family TV shows, you’re in for a real treat. Released weekly, Collin Farrell, as The Penguin (I know I can’t believe it’s him under all that prosthetics!) is a dark tale, but wildly captivating story with many twists and turns, the character depth also deserves an applause.
Fandi Angga Saputra reminisce’s his childhood wandering in nature through vivid surreal imaginations. As a rising star in the global art world, I was lucky enough to see one of his paintings in person. Look at the details!
