Designing Your Life with Bill Burnett on RachReflects is a terrific conversation between two admirable thought leaders. Known for his book Designing Your Life, Burnett touches on the areas of design thinking and how the principles he had learned through Standford’s D.School product design curriculum are applicable not only for innovative products but also in designing a meaningful life– an endeavour he remarks as one that resonates deeply.
Gone are the days when making money and grinding for wealth or status were the prime concern of most. Nowadays, what most people want is a life of meaning in pursuit of purpose and passions. The discussions sit around the idea of how to transcend self-limiting beliefs into a life that’s more fulfilling, that’s more reflective of your real desires versus the validations for others. This is a wisdom-packed episode worth your ears.
Interoception: The Hidden Sense that Shapes Well-being is an older article in The Guardian that will open your eyes to the developments in neuroscience and psychology, in terms of senses. In recent years, scientists have identified senses beyond the five we’ve all become too familiar with sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing. In particular, the new discoveries, of arguably one of the most important senses, is though likely one you never heard of.
Research and scientists are moving beyond the five senses to explore a new era of dynamic senses. This article gives you a great introduction to what it is, what it means, and how you can improve it in yourself.
The Local Project’s YouTube channel is one of my favourite pastimes. A love that started in the depths of the lockdowns a few years ago, has blossomed into a full-fledged obsession. Not only are the homes featured amazing, but it’s also the cinematography and artful production of each video that leaves a lasting impression.
From homes in Australia to the cool neighbourhoods of California, The Local Project is a love language for the creative in you. The interviews with architects and the elaborate details are worth your eyes. The channel will serve you soothing doses of wonderous interiors and creative foresight that you’ll be glad to spend time on. Welcome to the world of high design, expansive architecture, and artful living.

The talent in Southeast Asia, in particular, in Indonesia– continues to blow my mind. Yoy_vector, who goes by yoy is a lesser-known artist, but what a powerhouse of visuals his art is. The colours of his art are distinct, his images are fun, and his works are a wealth of imagination. While his style is reminiscent of cartoons you grew up watching, the subjects he depicts seem to lean on more mature attitudes.
The ideas of disillusionment with the modern world and the volatile reality of the individual psyches are what come to mind when viewing each of his pieces. Depicting a somewhat dystopian perspective, through vivid colours and disorientating representations Yoy’s imagination comes forward. What the artist is able to capture is his moods and attitudes in the moment, as each invades his thoughts. If art is an embodiment of the artist’s perspective, Yoy’s art is nothing short of an introspective look into the artist's various states of mind.
All experts will tell you that in order to build a lasting habit, like exercise, you need to start small and progress slowly. So, if you’re asking yourself what your one simple step to a lasting and more substantive gratitude practice is, then try taking three deep breaths the first moment you open your eyes in the morning.
Lay on your back, with your hand to heart, close your eyes as you breathe in through your nose and out; then think of one thing you are grateful for right now. Hold on to your first thought.
“It doesn’t matter where you come from, where you think you are going, what job or career you have had or think you should have. You are not too late, and you’re not too early.” – Bill Burnett
This is the advice I needed to hear this week and maybe for some of you too.
The popular conditioning that culture and society have reinforced over time is that there’s a universal timeline that all billions of us on this planet should follow. While the versions of this timeline vary across geographies and cultures, the sense of timely expectations is close to universal. There’s a sense that all of us should follow the same life stages.
But, is life really meant to be that linear? When you really look at the facts, this idea of being too late or too early is in fact a limiting belief that can hinder you from so much of what your life has to offer. That’s what I am realising too.
It’s been a little while since I’ve curated a playlist for you, here’s one that encapsulates my mood this week. Lay back, relax, and let Smooth Soother lead you into a moment of deep relaxation. This instrumental modern jazz compilation I’ve curated specially for you is lyrics-free and embellished with all the best melodies and sounds, so enjoy and maybe invite a friend or two.
If you’re not feeling my mood this week, then make sure to check out my Spotify page where I curate playlists for different moods. Also, if you’re a regular listener, please hit follow and take a moment to share my playlists with someone you love.
If you aren’t limited by responsibilities, money, society, or culture, and aren’t concerned about what everyone else thinks about you, how would you spend you choose to live and spend your time?
