Dr Brené Brown’s Guide to Healing & Finding True Belonging on The School of Greatness podcast touches on the profound complexities that every human being endures in the context of their search for belonging. This lifelong path is often paired with the journey of finding out who your authentic self is.
One of the main differences Brown highlights is the distinction between fitting in and true belonging. She talks about the profound courage it takes to show up as your most authentic selves, even if that means stepping outside of those around you, as she suggests true growth is about embracing and owning who you are despite what others may expect or want of you.
Both she and Hows spotlight the interconnectedness of vulnerability and bravery. Drawing from her background as a shame researcher, Brown revisits the essence of her work, to assert the discomforting reality in vulnerability. She highlights how the bedrock of real courage and transformation is in accepting moments of vulnerability as the pillar to strength and bravery, instead of what vulnerability is more commonly associated with– as weakness.
This conversation digs deep into the unique experiences of each person in shaping their worldview around belonging, vulnerability, and what it means to be brave.
The Way Forward by Yung Pueblo is yet another insightful masterpiece from an author I deeply admire. Returning to his signature prose, he also injects his long-form reflections of profound wisdom into this book.
Pueblo’s truths are confronting, yet they resonate with millions around the world because of the vulnerability it upholds. He writes with a soulful transparency that’s hard to explain unless you read his work. There’s clarity in every sentence that transcends individual experiences and brings any reader into his perspective but through a very intimate lens. His wisdom is vast and universally relevant to anyone at any point in their healing journey because his words offer truths that many of us ought to face within ourselves.
I don’t say this lightly, he is one of the greatest and most profound authors of our time. I read this book in two sittings. Every book feels like a pilgrimage of its own, so if you’re interested in connecting with yourself and working through your own healing, this book is one to spend time in.
Wheel-throwing is an underrated art form. I used to question the price tags on such seemingly simple crafts. But, after my own attempts at moulding my own creations, I’ve gained immense respect for the craftsmen who have honed this craft for a lifetime.
Beyond mere admiration, I genuinely believe it’s an experience everyone should dive into. The therapeutic essence of wheel-throwing is as remarkable as the artistry it yields. It commands your full attention, offering a rare reprieve from the digital world and other distractions. It forces you to stay present and encourages awareness of how you’re treating the clay. More importantly, it reignites a creative spark that often dims as we mature into our adulthood.

This week I am broadening my classification of art, all thanks to this incredible designer I’ve chanced upon: Dhruv Kapoor. Some of you may already know of him or maybe you don’t, but upon seeing his clothing, his label’s distinct styles are worth celebrating as art.
The unique flair of his Instagram account, his fashion, and even the website grabbed my attention. The vivid colours, the intricate patterns, the avant-garde combinations and the unexpected ensembles all exude an unmistakable cool that is reflective of a true artist.
His designs are his canvases. His fashion is a statement of art and expression. I am an enamoured admirer, to say the least– from the instant I laid eyes on one of his ensembles. While I may not wear all of his pieces myself, his designs straddle the whimsical worlds of art and fashion but are still practical for everyday wear– and that’s something I am inspired by.
Take a moment to read all the ingredients behind a food label. The more ingredients you don’t know, the more you should question its reliability; especially if most of the ingredients sound more like a science experiment than ingredients that are edible. This is one of the fastest ways to know how processed that food is.
Why do we as a species, or perhaps more as a society and through culture, have an obsession with labelling? It seems when we encounter life, especially nowadays, there’s a fluidity to the existence of how everything seems to exist– and yet, we sit from where we are continuously trying to find words to define not only our titles, and our roles but also ourselves. Why are there such stringent attachments to narrow labels and tight definitions of identity and who we are?
I am not even going to try to pretend I have the answer to any of these questions. I only ask you to ponder. Perhaps sharing these questions that have played out in my mind might catalyse your own sense of yourself and the roles and titles you play in your life.
All I can be certain of is that none of us are ever one-sided, we are all inherently complex. Perhaps some more than others, especially those who go against the herd.
I came across this old set of a live stream by Fred Again. Performed atop a quaint modest rooftop, it’s a definite departure from his claim to fame. This set showcases the depth and range of his talents. Its tranquillity underscores and unassuming artistry underscores his prowess as a talented producer. This weekend, treat yourself to a moment of serenity and drift away to the soothing sounds of Fred Again.
What labels do you abide by? What labels do you identify with?
